Do Christians really have choices or is God a dictator?
A dictator is someone who has a position of leadership obtained by force. It is someone who rules with absolute authority without always having a person’s best interest in mind. It can be in a cruel or brutal way.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
God is not a dictator. He is Sovereign and the King of Kings, but within His great mysterious plan for us, He has given us choice. He first gave us choice in Genesis 2:15-17, “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
This is the first choice that God gave to Adam: to obey or not to obey. From Adam to us today, every day we all have choices, to follow self, which is our natural inclination, or to follow the Word of God. Each have consequences.
